Name - Probably from Old English - 'crumb' - 'at the bend of the river 'Ale'. Formerly spelled 'Ancram' as in the present day title 'Earl of Ancram' whose home is nearby. Graveyard Record - Recorded as 'Ancrum and Longnewton' by the Borders Family History Society as Volume XVIII of their Roxburghshire Monumental Inscriptions Series.
